Prevailing in Prayer.
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day… And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me…And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well,

Prevailing in Prayer.
Dear Pray-er,
From the very moment a prophetic word comes forth, opposition is stirred for that very word’s sake (Mark 4:17).
Sometimes it comes as outright resistance; at other times, it’s subtler; distraction that leads to derailment. As you mature in faith and in the Spirit, you’ll grow more alert and discerning, recognising where your triggers come from.
Is it busyness? Offence? Calamity? Whatever form it takes, you must gird your loins.
It is your responsibility to enter into and remain in the rest of prophetic words (1 Timothy 6:12, Hebrews 4:9–11).
Over the coming weeks, I want to share with you three key points to prevailing prayer that have been stirring in my heart all week.
1. Aloneness
Prevailing prayer is often prayed alone. A thriving prayer life cannot rely solely on group prayers. The one-hour prophetic sessions we hold each week are meant to serve as an impetus and guide, more like a firing up but not a substitute for consistent and dedicated personal devotion.
Even if your group prays for extended periods, you must still build and sustain your personal prayer altar. God meets us mightily in corporate gatherings, and the true goal of corporate prayer is to help the pray-er cultivate the habit and discipline of alone prayer.
Jacob prayed and prevailed alone, Daniel prayed alone and kept praying until his delayed answer was released to him. Jesus prayed alone before the cross (Genesis 32:24, Daniel 10, Mathew 26:36).
I couldn’t help but observe that significant breakthroughs happen for people when they prevail in prayer- alone. There is a place for community praying, but we can’t overlook the significance of travailing alone.
If you’re praying to enter a new season or to birth new things, you must learn to embrace the quiet and even the boredom of praying alone for extended stretches. Some people drift from one prayer group to another- but I know that’s not you. 🙂
